I’ve been busy. Not the right kind of busy, but busy. Tonight’s post is an attempt to close some items out, yet to be honest, also a cop-out. At least I’m writing something.

The struggle to create

My Changelog says I’ve been working on my website in one way or another since mid-January. I first created Slash pages and they have become a mechanism for bringing information together.1 In Maintaining my AI policy I discuss how keeping track of my Generative AI use feels like the right thing to do. I secondly finished Migrating from Cloudflare Workers to Cloudflare Pages and that has given me a more solid sense of the website build. In turn, simpler website builds have helped with the task that has taken most of my time, moving my photos from flickr to here and IMatch to Site.

A substantial amount of this “creative work”, I’ve built for my Future self. At least I justify it that way. I keep finding examples of Optimistic procrastination and weekend after weekend since mid-January has been not much else. Maybe 10% of creative time has been creating something new like Let the mental models of the world teach me, Future self and Collaboration needs deep connection to succeed.

I’m done with website changes for now. I’ll keep those nagging few small improvements at arm’s length.

Aside: My internal referencing for notes allowed me to quickly identify what I have been working on and link for this post. That’s a win.

The job

I can’t believe I’ve only been back at work six weeks. With a new sales team developing it feels much longer due to the amount of change. Most of last week was spent managing ripples spreading out across the business, and like splashing around in a pool, reflecting back towards my team.

I sit within the sales team though my role in sales is indirect. My new title of “Business Technology Consultant” better reflects how I see my role of helping and advising clients to navigate through technology they need but don’t understand.

Changing tools

My The struggle to create had me looking for ways to break through and create something new. I realised I can increase thinking time and reduce digital creation time by using handwriting conversion.

Perhaps ironically, when looking at digital writing, I bought a LAMY Safari Fountain Pen. It replaces my second Waterman fountain pen. The first I had for maybe 8 years before it suddenly fell apart one day, and this one I’ve had almost 15 years. The black lacquer has begun to peel off the barrel leaving silver behind and is not a professional look.

The LAMY’s writing experience is different. The natural place to hold the pen is further away from the nib which makes it feel more like I think a fountain pen should. I might get a pencil to match.

Reading

Brandon Sanderson is currently ruling both my eyes and ears. I’m reading Elantris and listening to Rhythm of War.

Plato: Complete Works is moving along slowly and I’m part way through Sophist.
