My wife and I have a trip planned to Uluru next year. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip so I want to be better skilled at Photography. As well as an early morning walk around Uluru, we have a helicopter flight planned, and a night time astronomy tour.
The only way to develop my skills is to take photos and I’m trying to get out each weekend. I am much better already at knowing blindly knowing where the buttons are on my camera, and looking at the exposure settings. Up until now I’d been exposing without remembering to check the shutter speed. My eye is improving and I’m considering composition and depth of field differently.
The skills I want to develop between now and our trip are:
- Seeing compositions where they are not obvious. I hope to have a wide-angle lens before then.
- Tripod use where I don’t have to think about it. I currently plan to take the Neewer N284L+G0 tripod for the astrophotography night.
- Astrophotography and in particular Nightscapes, focusing and taking photos to blend together in post-processing.
- Overall,, feeling more comfortable taking my time to photograph in public.
- Planning a night photography shoot using software such as Stellarium.
If any other skill needs arise, I’ll add them here.
