I took time this morning to seriously re-evaluate my camera bags and how I use them.

The Peak Design 3L Everyday Sling is my “go to” bag for daily use. It has the Canon R50 with the Canon RF-S 18-45mm attached and the Canon RF-S 55-210 sitting on the side.

Original sling setup.

I also have a Lowepro ProTactic BP 350 camera backpack. This was my original bag until I realised I was carrying equipment simply to fill the bag. It is great for carrying my tripod on the side.

Big camera bag with more than enough room to spare.

Next year my wife and I are planning a trip to Uluru. I already have my eyes on the Canon RF-S 10-18mm lens. There isn’t room in the sling. Or is there…? My EF 50mm lens gives me something to test with.

The “Nifty Fifty” with RF adapter attached is larger than the RF-S 10-18mm will be.

It all came down to thinking laterally. Literally. Laterally. Without moving the divider there was enough room to lay my 55-210mm on it’s side, and put the 50mm on the left.

Two lenses. Is there space for the camera?

With the divider flap folded over there is room for the camera on top. It’s tight, but it fits.

It’s funny how inspiration comes. I was seriously looking at replacing this great little bag. It fits within the Lowepro as well, making everything neat and tidy.

Final setup. Sling in the bottom and extra pieces at the top for if I need them.
