Do you back up your knowledge regularly? This may be a timely warning

for you from Matt Mower.

I had a bit of a set-back this week. On Sunday my hard disk started buzzing in a most unpleasant way and 5 minutes later was dead. Fortunately Dell were pretty good this time and I received a replacement this afternoon. I’m also glad that I had imaged my disks (using [Norton Ghost] (http://www.symantec.com)) only a couple of weeks ago so I haven’t lost too much data. Curiouser and curiouser!

If you’re looking for some good backup software that is powerful and affordable, try Retrospect. I’ve been using it for over a year now without problems. Each night I back up to a drive dedicated to backups. Matt’s solution above means he risks losing data between his Ghost backup and the time of the crash. But periodically I will Ghost my system as well. Why? Because the art of backup is not just copying data, it’s how quick you can restore it as well. It is quicker to use Ghost and put back an older version of the system and then update over that than it is to reinstall windows from scratch.
