Outlook’s AutoComplete has cost me more time than it has saved. A friend recently changed his email address but each time I choose his name AutoComplete suggests the old address. A knowledge tool designed to help has gone bad. What once took a second now takes many more but the biggest cost is an interrupted thought process.

My solution has required clicking the To: button, scrolling to his name and then clicking another couple of buttons to enter the address. A big step up from 4 keystrokes. Even removing the old address from the contact record and moving the new from email2 to email1 didn’t work. Another couple of minutes gone and more frustration.

Normally AutoComplete is a time saver so I don’t want to turn it off. Fed up I went to the web and quickly found a page about Clearing saved AutoComplete e-mail addresses in Outlook 2002.

It works. Using the second option I have been able to keep AutoComplete active, delete the old address and retain the rest.
