The Sword of Kaigen was a recommendation I picked up from a YouTube channel. Though I cannot count the number of books I still have to read, I’m compelled to seek new stories for fear of missing out. It is a stand-alone title that sits as a prequel to the Theonite series. As much as I enjoyed this, I don’t feel the need to progress the series further. I have the sense that would lessen my enjoyment of the Matsuda family’s adventures on the side of a mountain.
I appreciated the structure of the story as different from the usual step-ordered trope story telling of fantasy novels. There is more feeling and less action in our hero’s journey and that kept me engaged.
