Focal length is the distance light travels between the front of the lens and the sensor. From a fixed standing position, a longer focal length will have a narrower field of view and the object will appear closer; effectively a zoom.
Depth of field, the range of focus, decreases as focal length increases. Practically, this is only relevant for closer items. In an landscape it’s not such an issue.
Canon APS-C angles of view has the calculated values for the Canon R50.
43mm is the only true focal length suggests this matches human sight on a full-frame sensor. I have not been able to find anything confirming that. On my camera the equivalent is 27mm.
