New toy, new learnings
Research is fun when I care Realisation a couple of days ago about just how dogged I am when I’m researching something that interests me. I saw it last year when gathering information about a new camera1 and it’s been present the last few weeks as well as I’ve adjusted to having some Friday’s off work as annual leave.

A flood of thinking
Earlier this week I realised I needed to improve my note taking/making into note using. Throughout the week I’ve been looking at Zettelkasten for it seems to be the preferred method for building up a large repository of useful notes designed to be inputs into writing. Now that I’ve stopped for the week and have a few days of my own time ahead of me, the flood gate of thoughts have opened and I need to pin some of them down or I’ll never relax.

Leaving Omnivore (for now)
I’ve been a big fan of Omnivore, but for now I’m pulling all my RSS Feeds. The team has been open about RSS being a beta feature, and my patience has run out. Feeds are not reliably downloaded. XKCD and PostSecret are the worst two. I have to click through to the original post to get images. Sync is unreliable.

Redo of yesterday's note taking note
I’m not happy with yesterday’s note so I’m giving it another go with more love and attention. I knew I wanted to write about note taking yesterday so I simply wrote. I didn’t think. I realised I had flailed around so I pushed “print” anyway. For a note about note taking, where the underpinning goal is to write better, this was a sub-par effort, providing plenty to learn from.

RSS Minefield
You make one simple change. A few days ago I reorganised blog posts into a YYYY/MM folder structure. Within the processing, this added a two ../ into the links because the articles have moved downwards two folders. Four months ago, I added code to .replaceAll("../", "quantumgardener.info/") which had the impact of providing a link that looks like this: quantumgardener.info/https://quantumgardener.info/https://quantumgardener.info/notes/obsidian and that clearly ain’t right.

Reflections on my note taking
I’m conscious as I head into a period of more writing that my note taking isn’t very good, or at least my note viewing after I take them. I think I take reasonable notes. I’ve had a focus on the The NoMa Method which has improved my not taking, when I remember to do so. Notes are filed well. Notes will link using forward and backlinks in Obsidian.

Friday on my mind
Week 2 of my experiment taking Friday’s off work. The first four weeks are annual leave but I hope to be able to move that to a permanent work arrangement thereafter. The goal is to allow me to relax and pursue that which makes my heart sing. My last blog entry My Wednesday blog entry generated a “Page Not Found” 404 error and may not have shown up in your feed.

There is a lot going on. Following my wife’s suggestion around Christmas, and after a lot of consideration, I’ve made a formal request to cut my work days from 5 to 4. Things haven’t been enjoyable for a while because I’ve not been busy and there is a catch-22 at play. The less busy I am, the worse I feel, but if I was fully busy I’d have hit my current burnout earlier.

Today I posted the documentation on my IMatch to Socials project. It’s been somewhat of a labour of love over the past couple of months to write code that will automate the upload and update of images from IMatch to my flickr and pixelfed accounts. It’s the second best code that I’ve ever written and I’m proud of how elegant it is.
