Ever since the man in black began walking across the desert with the gunslinger following, Roland has been travelling from West to East. On my 7th reading of The Dark Tower it became clear that in the book, the direction was the other way around. If I think of Roland and his ka-tet’s future adventures they continue to travel in an easterly direction.

I wonder why this is. Was it because that’s the way I imagined those first few steps and I never bothered to change as I read the contrary evidence? The pathways in my mind, and the pathways in the book differ, yet for me the journey to The Dark Tower will always be silhouetted against the rising sun.
