A quick and interesting exploration of eight books and why they were banned somewhere in the world.

This video covers:

  • Animal Farm by George Orwell - read and watched in high school
  • Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
  • Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
  • The Satanic Verses by Salmon Rushdie
  • The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene
  • Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
  • 120 Days of Sodom by the Marquis de Sade
  • The Lorax by Dr. Seusss - read to my children

I can’t say I’d be comfortable reading them all but my discomfort is not a valid reason to ban something. 120 days of Sodom is off my list as is Lolita. I don’t think I’d gain anything from reading them. The 48 Laws of Power I’m in two minds about. It will have something to say about Authority and how it’s given away, but I’m not sure how I’d feel if I felt overwhelmed by a lack of control in my life.
