Autumn Sunset

My panorama process

Ideally use a tripod, but can be done handheld.

  1. Taking the panorama
    1. Get the exposure right
    2. Set to shutter priority so that ISO and aperture don’t change
    3. Set white balance to anything other than AWB
    4. Focus
    5. Set focus to manual so it doesn’t change
    6. Shoot with plenty of overlap for later stitching using Affinity Photo
  2. Processing
    1. Process images through DXO Pure Raw to remove noise and spherical aberration
    2. Stitch using Affinity Photo
    3. Perform image editing (cropping, colour grading, sharpening)
    4. Save as JPEG alongside first DNG in series (100% quality)1
    5. Copy DNG metadata to JPEG (transfer shooting information, GPS etc.)
    6. Delete DNG series files

Footnotes

  1. Might need to test TIFF instead of JPEG
