Obsidian provides the means of giving a note an alternative name. An aliased link takes the form [[note|alias]] and displays the alias instead of the note name. Aliases can assist with readability in situations where the note name is not meaningful in a context. Additionally, Obsidian aliases are good for pluralisation and Obsidian aliases are good for displaying note titles properly.

When the name of a note is changed any link using an alias will continue to display the alias. Consequently less discipline is required when naming notes as the impact of a note name change is lessened.

As Zettelkasten scale increases aliases become an increasing source of friction to manage. There is no way to automate alias addition, change or removal. Each alias must be updated separately.

Obsidian aliases are not standard markdown which potentially creates a problem for notes if an alternative to Obsidian is employed.
