Jared Henderson identifies four basic prompts,1 partly designed to get past any block and into a Journaling for the day.

  1. Write about an event that occurred during the day. Doesn’t have to be momentous and can be mundane. Goal here is to get started.
  2. Write about something you’re proud of from the day. Something done, restrained, habit followed…
  3. Write about something that went wrong. What is the learning from that. Is there a pattern.
  4. Zoom out and think about the bigger picture. How does all this above connect to the larger narrative in my life.

The last point is a way to reset our own story.
