Commonplace book vs journal

30 January 2026 [original 15 January 2026]

Unlike a Journal which can be purely time-based and introspective, a Commonplace book is designed to be a reference.

A Journal will be structured temporally, usually by date.

A Commonplace book will be structured depending on the information stored and the level of retrieval mechanism (Structure note) needed.

Since a Commonplace book reflects a person’s interaction with life, it can be considered a Journal.
