A spent a few days in Colonia unsure why I was there. Traveller’s regret. The engineers I hoped to talk to needed resources that I’d have been better off collecting before I left.

When I arrived there were ads everywhere for the Caspian Explorer, a large exploration-styled ship compared to Memories of Tull which is a medium ship. Maybe my judgement was out after travelling 20,000+ ly but I bought one. Aunt Talitha is her name. I’ve already flown her back home using the neutron highway to cut the trip down by a third. She’s fully engineered as well.

Was my first time doing the neutron dance and not as scary as I thought. Barely damaged the frame shift drive at all. The cat even liked it. Aunt Talitha has a much better field of view and kitty would sit at the front bridge and try to catch the pretty lights.

Jaques Station, Colonia and a well earned drink. After something like 350 hyperjumps the Cat and I have finally made it.

Along the way we discovered 42 new systems and their planets, earning 62,672,029 credits for being nosey. Enough to pay for the snacks and cat food at least. I also earned a sweet 85,122,240 for biological scanning, with 2/3 of that for first discoveries.

Travelling today with some tunes. The boys that owned the pet shop where I bought the cat gave me a selection of their songs.

Learned the hard way that when thrusting near a planet the optimal directions are parallel to the planet’s surface or perpendicular away from. Not pointed at. Shields are at 46% so no further landings until I reach Colonia.

Found a proto-legrange cloud in Nueajeau IR-F c26-5. Quite beautiful.

The first leg of my trip to Colonia is done. I’m now heading to Skaude AA-A H294 where I’m told there is some interesting sightseeing. Must be on the backroads as there are plenty of systems I’m the first to visit. Not scanning everything. Takes too long for too little reward. A rock is a rock.

Stocking up and preparing for my first trip to Colonia. I’ve spent a couple of days trekking between the Jamieson crash site and a materials trader a couple of systems away. Collecting heaps of necessary materials from the crash but they’re all the same kind and I can only carry so may. Thankfully trading for what I need is not too difficult if unexciting.

I now have Memories of Tull as engineered as I can here. Teased out a 14% gain in hyperspace jump distance which was critical before the long 20,000+ ly trip to some further engineers in Colonia. And put on those seatbelts. I also managed a 137% increase in top thruster speed. Given my complete incompetence at pinpointing where I need to land, this speed travelling across planet surfaces will help.

Lunchtime was approaching and I’m nothing if not a creature of Habit. The ship’s navigation alerted me to some lucrative bioscanning on Outotz GK-K c23-0 C 7 so I landed the ship, had some lunch and began scanning. It wasn’t long before I had enough credits to pay for the chocolate bar I picked up to go with my sandwiches.

RTFM is all I can say. Gathering selenium using the SRV was hell. When shot at from the SRV brain trees a fragment would more often than not get stuck and fail to fall where it could be collected. Blowing the trees up from 100–200m up using a flak cannon, then sending out collector limpets to do the job is easier. Note to self. Raise ship to 750m above the surface otherwise limpets will smash into it. I now have a full complement of selenium.

Got distracted by some lucrative exobiology heading to a polonium site in the HIP 36601 system. Just three species will net me around 40mill credits. Spent way too long tracking down the third sample of a cheaper species and have given up to go and eat.

I want to have a full complement of engineering components before I head to Colonia. The best strategy is to find the good quality materials and trade down to the lesser quality ones. Saves a lot of time so I traded down materials at a raw materials trader on the way home. Bought a frag cannon while I was there.

When I arrived a Shinrata Dezra (home) I replaced with Guardian FSD Booster for an extra 20% jump distance.

The back out to space for some raw material collecting. I’d heard wind that instead of driving around for hours in the SRV, I could park my ship above the resources, blow the hell out of them with the frag cannon, then automate collection.

Had to find the bloody things resource. Then it didn’t work. I’m feeling ill from bouncing the SRV around in very low gravity and I only have 1/3 the selenium I need.

Damn Galactic Web! I finally fixed the problem preventing my log entries from saving properly. Nothing was going through. I hope it is now.

Yesterday was a mostly a waste of time. Lei Cheung needs wants me to provide tin before expanding the probe scanning radius on my detailed surface scanner. I can’t do planetary scans effectively without it because it increases the radius by +50% and I’m at heart too lazy to press a scan button more than I need to.

My database to me Iah Lanitei C1 was promising so I landed Memories of Tull and spent 30 minutes driving around with nothing to find. Seriously, I’d have seen more tin watching The Wizard of Oz.

Moved to HIP 22286 2 which was better. I now have enough tin for Lei, but am uncomfortable with what’s left over. Might need to reach out to some other commanders for a plan.
