The Two Minute Rule exists as part of GTD practice. It says spend up to two minutes deciding what to do with any action item. If you can deal with it within 2 minutes, do so. Otherwise decide to file for future reference, put on an actions list, delegate or bin.
I’ve been working through a large list of outstanding blog feeds this morning and have been quite merrily scanning and then binning or filing. What I haven’t been doing is deciding. The bin decision is easy but with filing I have not been considering what I really want to do with the material. It struck me that I’m keeping thing in Outlook for searching when google does all that for me, if I ever need it. And the truth is that in most cases, I probably won’t.
