I am a big user of NewsGator. Greg Reinacker has put forward some comments on why he believes bringing all RSS sources into Outlook is a good idea and why I use it. Look beyond what may appear a plug for NewsGator to some good ideas.
And Greg, here is a challenge. I’ll suggest the real push to NewsGator may come is on the output. One of the new features is the ability to post directly to a weblog such as movabletype from within Outlook. Posting is now no longer different to email. But already I can’t use the new features because I want XHTML 1.0 compliance on this site. NewsGator-Outlook generated posts use capital letters for the tags rather than lowercase and introduces extraneous spans. The spans are noise and would pass if the tag was lowercase but I don’t see why they have to be there. I’m already removing font face and size tags.
So some changes will be required. However, what if NewsGator led the way to produce RSS output itself that is delivered to movabletype at instead of via the XML-RPC interface? Then RSS is truly ubiquitous.
