;iw; is a remembering pattern that uses a sentence structure what starts with “I Want…” and extends with each child node.
Intent
;iw; translates sentences into a :pb: structure allowing quick navigation to a point, be that a topic, tool (via links) or memory. For example, instead of remembering that Fictionwise supplies ebooks for a PDA, you need only think “I want to read a book on my PDA” and translate the sentence through a series of thoughts to find the link you need.
Also Known As
There are no other known names for this pattern.
Motivation
;iw; quickens remembering because it:
- allows you to find something by expressing a sentence; and
- each level down that you traverse suggests the next level of possibilities.
Applicability
Very useful for quick links to day-to-day activities. For example, “I want to send an email” can be used to launch your favourite email program. Even more detailed could be “I want to send an email to Jane”.
Collaborations
;iw; could form an alternative structure for :hpy:.
Consequences
There are no known consequences of this pattern. It would appear to be infinitly scalable.
Implementation
Start with a single thought called “I want” and from that expand sentences for the actions you want. Each sentence is partial and splits wherever there is a choice of action.
“I want to edit a Word document” becomes:
- “I want…”
- choice of action
- “…to edit…”
- choice of what to edit
- “…a Word document…”
- choice of what to edit
- “…to edit…”
- choice of action
Create a pin to the root ;iw; thought for easier access.
;iw; may provide additional benefit if, for example, all your word documents were stored in the same filesystem directory and you took advantage of :pb:’s virtual thoughts feature.
Sample Plex
The following two images show the traversal of the plex throught “I Want to read a book”.

Known Uses
Using :pb: as a launcher application.
Storing lists for later reference.
