In August last year, The Yankee Blogger wrote 100 things about himself and then set a challenge to have 100 bloggers write 100 things about themselves in 100 days.

Project update – It’s amazing! I reached my quota of “100 bloggers” in just 10 days. To be true to the project I will still continue to collect links to the “100 things” lists for 100 days until November 30, 2002. The initial and elite “100 bloggers” will be listed in a directory which includes their list, links and a photo. All additional “100 things” blogger lists will be posted in the “100+” directory as a link only.

When I saw the list just recently I was struck by how powerful such a list can be. Often we bemoan the fact that we don’t know much about others. How much do we even know about ourselves.

It has taken me three weeks to come up with a list of 100 things about myself. I could have done it in 30 minutes had I not bothered to take the time to reflect and think about the things that really make me… well me really. It has been a lot of fun and at times surprising.

Please read the list to learn something about me, and I hope yourself in the process. This list will also from part of my calling card and I will attach a link to all my emails with an invitation to read it. You never know what we may have in common.  If you’ve written your own list let me know.

100 Things about David C. Buchan

  1. My birthday often coincides with Easter.
  2. I have seen Elton John in concert on both sides ofthe planet.
  3. I have lived in 3 countries; Australia, Denmark and England.
  4. I want to fly around Australia by helicopter.
  5. I still believe in Santa Claus.
  6. I once bought the same Belinda Carlisle album 3 times.
  7. I know what D20, D10, D8, D6 and D4′s are.
  8. I am just 10 months older than my oldest younger brother.
  9. The closest tube station near where I lived in London was East Putney.
  10. When I saw Michelangelo’s Pietá in St. Peter’s Basilica my soul cried.
  11. My best bowling figures are 3 for 1 (a hat-trick) and my top score is 35.
  12. I have flown over the Eiffel Tower at night.
  13. My DVD collection outstrips my video collection by 100-1.
  14. The two biggest joys of my life are my wife Wendy and my daughter Caitlin.
  15. At university I completed a double-degree in 4 years.
  16. My wedding day really was one of the happiest of my life.
  17. I’m lousy at fishing.
  18. My favourite movies are The Princess Bride, The Fifth Element and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

  28. I’m glad my daughter has 4 grandparents and 3 great-grandmothers alive and that all have met her.

  30. The thing I fear most about dying is losing the connection I have to Wendy.
  31. Charlton is the name of my teddy bear and he always accompanies me when I’m travelling by myself.
  32. Each time I’ve been in Denmark I’ve seen her Queen (once sitting only metres away) but I’ve never seen the Queen of England.
  33. I think being a racing driver would be a great profession.
  34. Star Wars was the first movie I saw on VHS and I like it because it is fun and not because I’m supposed to because of my demographic.
  35. There are 5 DVDs in my collection that I have owned for more than 3 months yet never watched.
  36. My first house was bought over the Internet. It was in Melbourne, Australia and I was in London, England.
  37. I love changes in the weather. From hot to cold or cold to hot it matters not.
  38. In year 10, I was the only boy in my form group.
  39. I think birthday cards are a waste of money and would much rather put that into the gift.

  64. I know why Australian accents on U.S. TV shows sound so bad to Australians when shown in Australia.
  65. Dogs are not high on my list of preferred pets.

  67. The volume of song lyrics I can remember has little practical value when I can’t find my car keys.
  68. Coffee or tea? Depends on my mood.
  69. I cross-stitch and prefer linen to aida fabric.
  70. A drunk driver once drove into my living room. His blood alcohol reading was 0.24; five times the legal limit.
  71. I think the best time to see a new Disney animated movie is with the Saturday afternoon matinee.
  72. My D.I.Y. skills are much better now that I’ve owned my own house.
  73. Once I hit my shin on the side of a pool as I jumped in. When I got out I found I had split my shin to the bone and needed 7 stitches.

  76. The thought of having a gun in the house scares me.
  77. Television broadcast watermarks annoy me. I already know what station I’m watching and would rather see the whole picture.

  81. I prefer to use a fountain pen when writing.
  82. The first fish I ever caught was a redfin on a fishing trip with my uncle.

  86. I met my wife at college and when I asked her out she said her boyfriend wouldn’t approve, then later told her mum that I wasn’t her type.

  88. V8 Supercars, Champ cars and WRC are my favourite forms of motor racing.
  89. I have contributed almost SETI at Home units to the search for life in space.
  90. Horse racing holds absolutely no interest for me.
  91. Mint slices are my favourite biscuit.
  92. Always colour, neighbour, flavour and never color, neighbor or flavor!
  93. I have barracked for the same football team all my life.
  94. I always drive with the car lights on even though I’m not a Volvo owner.

  100. I wish I had done this sooner and recommend everybody take considered time to complete their own list of 100 things about themselves. I’ve taken 3 weeks and learnt a lot about myself.
